Things I am kinda sorta liking right now: NYC smoochproof lipstain August 21, 2015

Today was payday.  We're ballin' on a budget big time around here, but I think it is a really important part of self care to treat yo' self sometimes.

I try to keep it to about $5 and under, but its fun to get some little treat.  There are always clearance finds, and all kinds of make up that can be purchased in that price range, just to spruce your day up a little bit.

I love a red lip.  We all know that.  But a red lip is a high maintenance lip.  Despite what Peggy Carter would have us believe, red lipstick isn't something you can just slap on, and then go through your whole day.  Red lipstick runs.  And it has to be applied carefully.  You cant just slide it across your lips without looking, like you can with other colors.  It takes precision.  I have some Covergirl infallible lip color that I stole from mom mom at a wedding reception in, like, 2007, and when I put that stuff on, it stays.  But it isn't red.  Its a really odd shade of pink, that I still wear a lot, just because its longevity never ceases to amaze me.

Why not buy infallible in a shade of red, you ask? I probably should.  But its about $10 and that out double my budget.  So, the search continues.  Earlier this week, I came across NYC smoochproof lipstain while perusing the beauty aisles of my local Wal-Mart.

If you search this product on walmart.com it will show up upwards of $5, but in the store where I was it was $2.77.  Score!  I also was curious to trying it because it is a lipstain, rather than a lipstick, which, I assumed meant it would stain, you know? Stains are supposed to be hard to get out, right?

Also, it looks, legit, like a marker.  Like I could straight up go back to 2nd grade and color with it.

Just in case it was like a permanent marker, I was really careful in applying it. and it did go on pretty easily.  You can add layers to thicken the color, and its important to let it sit for a few minutes before you eat or drink or kiss so that it can dry.  I did like that once it was on and dry, it didnt seem to move and I loved the overall dark tones of the color I chose.  The color is called "Rock On Ruby," but from what I see from my online research, they have lots of lovely colors.

It is very watery when it goes on, so you definitely have to let it dry.  But with a few layers it build up to a really nice color:

It also has a relly nice sort of berry smell to it, but it doesnt last that long.  If you put it on, and don't eat or drink, and just go about your business, I think its a good buy.  Especially for $2.77.  It would be really hard to beat  that.

Here's the downsides:
- if you eat or drink anything, the wetness reactivates, for lack of better word, and that stain is coming right off.
- it doesn't see to wear evenly, so you'd need to keep that with you so that you can keep an eye on that.
- once it has been on awhile, its better to wipe it all off and re-apply, rather that just apply on top, because its drying, and can get yucky.

Here is a picture of how it wore off unevenly after I ate:

Overall, I would say it's good for what it is, I mean it was less than $3, so its hard to be mad at any of it.  But, the search for my real lip stain, that doesnt run, and doesnt come off, continues.
